$150,000 in college scholarships awarded to high school students | News
MODESTO - The Stanislaus County Office of Education (SCOE) awarded 54 college scholarships, totaling $150,000 to students attending Orestimba, Patterson and Waterford high schools. In January, SCOE received a grant from the College Access Foundation of California to provide college scholarships to increase the college-going rate among under-represented, low-income and first-generation students.

Nineteen students from Orestimba High School received 19 awards totaling $37,500.00, Patterson High School students received 28 awards totaling $82,500.00 and Waterford High School students received 7 awards totaling $30,000.00. These students will attend the following colleges: UC Merced, Merced Community College, Modesto Junior College, and CSU Stanislaus, The University of New England, Idaho State University, University of Reno Nevada, and many others throughout California.
Criteria for selection of scholarship recipients included financial need, academic performance, first-generation college attendance, and recommendation by a teacher, counselor, or school administrator. Scholarship recipients will have the opportunity for a renewal scholarship for their second year in college.
